68 Chevelle

My question is will a (1970) 442 12 bolt rear end swap out with a 68 chevelle? both are A body cars but like to have some back up. Thanks Brian

Absolutely, although the pinion yoke may be different.

DYK GM trivia - the 67 Chevelle rear end is 1" narrower and bolts right in.

I love 68.s as I had a 68 malibu as my first car.

Look at it close, the Olds 12-bolt is actually a 10-bolt inside-- it's not the same as a Chevy 12-bolt. It will bolt in but it is not as strong, not really any stronger than a Chevy 10-bolt but a lot harder to find gears for.

Thanks

Good call, did some looking into it and your dead on. So I went to a 9" with 4:11 gears, 31 spline. Car has 500 hp so it should hold together. Hoping its not to much gear my 454 will peak out about 5500 rpm so 1/4 mile track it should be scream'en.(with 27" tires). Thanks again
