68 chevelle SS 396

I have a hard question, after many years of yourning for my brothers car (over 23 years to be exact) I finally got my hands on it a few weeks ago. He had tore out the interior in 97 (Yes I was quite upset) , and bought all new pieces, stuffed them in the car (still in their boxes) and let it sit.

I bought it, and since most of the interior was destroyed (from him taking it out) I installed all the new stuff down to the brand new shifter, and consol. And I kept the all the orginal stuff, the badges, dash pad, all orginal 396 emblems, orginal consol/shifter assembly. He still had the stock aircleaner, but over the years lost the intake (This was replaced in the late 80/ early 90's

The car is a all matching numbers, that has only had the interior molested. And the engine(matching numbers) freshed up, quite a bit. Is there anyway I can get the exact replacement intake? I've searched and searched, and havent been able to find it.

Also When I pulled the stock rear seat from the attic in his garage I couldn't find the build sheet, This is the only seat I havent recovered yet (still great shape) Is it possible it is inside of it? Or you think the mice might have got it? He says he never touched it, and he bought it off the orginal owner(Which I know) ANd he says he never touched the seats, or had a clue about the build sheet or even a care about it really. I just hate to rip the seats apart for something that might not be there, and it is no where else in the car.
Is there anyway I can get a duplicate build sheet with my serial number and orginal cowl tag? Also is there anyway to tell what engine it has with out the build sheet?

My brother said he thought it was a 350hp or 375hp but can't remember.

Is there some way to tell?

All I almost forgot it is a

68 SS 396
th 400
Power Drum brakes
No air
12 bolt posi
No center tach (factory that is)
Does have the lower body trim front to back.
bucket seats
center consol
Was am/fm radio (Idiot threw it away cause it didn't work anymore)

Also were any offered with headers from the factory? The orginal owner said he don't remember changing over to headers.
If not how can I get my hands on a correct set of manifolds?
Feel free to email me at

Check above the fuel tank. Sometimes they stuck the build sheets there. Good luck on finding it. Also on the HP check these sites and run your engine block numbers to see what you have. www.mortec.com http://www.geocities.com/meanracing/...formation.html
If you get a chance, post a pic of your new ride.
