not finding that number. Is that number "Cast" into the block somewhere or is it "Stamped " into the block next to the "YS"?

Those are stamped and they are the sequence number. Look at the engine back by the distributor hole. there is a number back there
9790071 would be a 1968 400 block.
post what you find.

There will be a four digit date code cast behind the distributor, It will start with a letter followed by three numbers. The block casting number is behind the pasanger side cylinder bank.

YS is going to be a 2-bolt main 389 or 400. Once you have the block c/n and the date code you can pin it down exactly.

cobalt, Pontiac didn't use a Powerglide in '65 & '66. What they had was called a Super Turbine 300. A two speed, yes, but not a Powerglide.

Yeah. Might want to let them know over at Pontiac Power. But I'm pretty sure anyone should realize that a 2-speed transmission is what is being inferred, incorrect as the terminology may be. Similar to when the Dual Path is called a Dynaflow.
