68 GTO Rear Stop Light /Turn Signal
Have a 68 GTO with the rear left stop lights not working. The right stop lights work fine. Also, the left and right rear turn signals work, and they share the the same filament in the 1157 as the stop lights.
There must be a point where the turn signal takes control of the power to the filament in order to turn stop light off if it is illuminated when the turn signal turned on. I do not have a complete shop manual yet (ordered it today) but was hoping someone could lead me to a potential fix, or at least the next step in diangnosing the problem. Thanks. |

Is there any difference in behavior of the stop/turn filaments when the running lights are on vs. off? If yes, it's likely the ground. If no, the problem is likely the turn signal switch. There are separate wires to each side from the switch to the stop/turn filaments on each side. The switch connects them together for the brake function but separates them for the turn signal function. If one works and not the other, the problem is the switch.
