Yesterday 2 of my rodding buddies and I went to check out 30 cars for sale way out in the tulies. The guy is about 60 or so, picture Uncle Jessie form the Dukes of Hazard. We drive down a dirt road along a canal bank about a 1/4 mile to his place, surrounded by grape vineyards and walnut orchards, can't be seen from the main roads. There's 4 mobile homes, one really old house, a couple of lean-tos, weeds waist high to a tall man, and old cars, trucks, and a few old motorcycles, Hondas and a Yamaha. We get out, he runs off 2 mean dogs that will bite, says don't turn your back on them, and start looking. There's a 47 Willys Overland, rust bucket, 4 Rancheros, 2 of them 60-62 vintage, a 59, and the back half of a 64. There was a 63 Pontiac Tempest mounted on a 4 wheel drive frame, 69 Riviera, a few late 60s Buicks, a 65 Buick wagon, Vista Cruiser style, (can't remember what they called them at the moment) a 41 Buick 4dr, rust bucket, a 48 Ford 2 ton (only $200, no title)a school bus, early 50s Ford, a 78 Mustang 2 Cobra, stripped but all parts and a 302, 1200 bucks, a few other junkers. Then there was the GTX, all covered up, rebuilt motor and trans, "I done it all with the help of a few books". The GTX is complete, body is pretty straight, orange, typical rust around the back window from the vinyl top, rusted through in a few places, but other than that pretty clean. He says I want 25 for it, not a dime less. Rick says "I'll buy it, I'll be back in an hour with the money and a trailer. We hustle back to town, get the money, a trailer and head back. He hands the money to the guy and we start getting ready to load up, he walks into the house to give the money to his 86 yr. old Ma, comes back out and says "I meant 25,000! Holy crap! This thing is worth $5,000 tops to someone that just has to have one! Well money reverses hands, he gets to talking, very apolegetic, says he and ma have been watching Barrett/Jackson and figure the car is a goldmine. So if you know anyone with 25gs to blow on something stupid, email me, this old hillbilly boy needs some money...
