68 mustang 8" to 9" swap

I am looking to change out my 8" rear for a 8.8 or 9" with disc brakes and posi and preferred 3.55 gears or similar. Can anyone tell me if the late model mustangs or others will work somewhat easily? Also i have en extra 3to3 1/2" worth of room in the rear now. I believe that the measurements for my 8" rear from flange to flange is 54". The other option is to add a rear posi with gears and a disc brake setup for around $1200.00 thanks for any info!

Original 289 slightly modified with c4 from jackson racing. Nothing exceptional. Mostly show.

I'd stick with the 8". They are strong rear ends. The front discs should be sufficient. If you want to do the change it is going to cost some $$$.

An 8" will hold approx. 300 HP. Would it be cheaper for you to find a 9" or just build what you have? The discs are no problem. Adaptors and you can use MARK VII rear disc. I don't think you want the 8.8".

re: 68 mustang 8" to 9" swap

It has front disc, and I wanted it all around but it sounds like it would be easier and probably more cost effective in the long run to stick with the 8" and add rear disc and a posi 3rd member with gears right? Has anyone had good experiences with getting a whole posi 3rd with gears at a decent price? I've seen them on ebay for around 5-600 with shipping. Thanks for the info guys. I've only been on here 1 week and I love it.
