68 Rear End

My cam question in the Engine forum is related to this, but I wanted to ask the rear end question here. My grandpa swears he pulled my 10 bolt drop out style housing rear from a 1968 Suburban. I thought they last used this rear in 1964. On top of all that, doing the driveline math it looks like 3.36:1 gears. He swears it came out of that Suburban and he never changed gears. Is this possible, or is he going crazy?

BTW, this auction makes me curious. It's a post-1964 10 bolt, but isn't a drop out housing. But it is 8.25, and does have factory 3.36:1 gears....

My rear end knowlege is really lacking, so any education will really be appreciated!

Show us the pinion side, the drop out side, and a shot of the axle end, with the drum on is OK. It sure looks like a Ford from here.

What is the wheel bolt pattern? 5 or 6 and how big?

Heres the housing pic (excuse the duct tape). I'll take more pics when I go back to the shop. It is a 5 bolt pattern, and it fits my Centerlines, so I think that could have been changed.

Ok I think its a Hotchkiss 8.2, but does anyone know if it could have come from the factory in a '68 'Burb?? Anyone out there riding around in a 67-72 Suburban feel like taking a look under your ride for me?
