69 bronco v-8 swap
I have a 69 ford bronco, with a 170 I-6 and a three on the tree. I definately want to drop a v-8 into it like a 302 or maybe a 351w with possibly a an c4 auto, or maybe something with an overdrive gear in it. I have heard from some people who have swapped these motors into these six cylinder broncos that they had to cut into the firewall, and then from others ive heard that it will fit just fine. I have a set of bronco motor mounts for these v-8s but i just wanna find out if it could be done without messing up the firewall.

the Bronco's were offered with SBF v8's so that's not an issue... I'd just get a 250 6cyl and be done with it.. you will need a new bellhousing but it's a bolt in w/ no other issues. the 6cyl makes better torque which is what you want in a 4x4 anyway... could even turbocharge it and make V8 hp with even better torque numbers

almost the same length when you figure in the water pump snout on the SBF.. the 6cyl pump sits in the block and has no snout

The six cylinder bronco transmission has a shorter tail shaft and adapter housing than the v8 transmission to allow room for the longer six cylinder. A v8 transmission and adapter housing will be needed along with v8 engine frame mounts. A v8 will not reach the shorter six cylinder transmission which is why some people hack up the firewalls. You won't have to hack up anything if you convert to a c4 or a v8 3 speed manual transmission.
