69 cadillac gearbox question

hello guys
i got a 69 eldorado(fwd) and i want to rebuild it to a rwd, it has a 472 engine,i was looking for a gearbox for the engine and came up to a TH400 out of a 72 buick riviera, would this fit my 472 engine??? i read before that TH350 and TH400 would fit but i dont know if this is true, any sugestions of gearboxes i can use?

Cadillac had the BOP bellhousing bolt pattern, so that Buick TH400 will bolt up, as would any TH350/400 that has the BOP bolt pattern.

what type of rear axle would be a good combination with that engine/gearbox?

If you plan on abusing it, Dana 60, Ford 9", or Chevy 12 bolt, or an 8.5" 10 bolt might suffice.

There was a guy around Syracuse years ago that had a Toronado drivetrain stuffed into the back of his late 40s/ early 50s Desoto. It was pretty well done from what I remember and would just shred tires. However I have no pictures, nor any idea what happened to it or the owner.
