Without actually seeing this, it is hard to say, but it almost sounds to me like your engine is sitting too far rearward in the car. Just a thought , are the mounts interchangeable from side to side? Is it possible that the mounts are on the wrong side? I have had several of the first gen camaros and can't remember running into this problem. It's probably something simple, just step back for awhile and try to look at it with a fresh outlook. Good luck, and post back when you find the problem. I'm curious now.
