69 Camaro mono springs to Multi conversion

I am converting my 69 RS Convertible Camaro from Mono to Multi- leaf springs. I bought the conversion kit and just got it back together. I bought shocks for a multi- leaf Camaro. When I went to install the shocks I noticed that they were about 2 to 3 inches too short. I have a friend that did the same conversion and his shocks fit fine. My multi- leaf spring has 6 leafs if you count the short plate on bottom. My friend has 5 leafs if you count the same short plate. I didn't order them like that, that is the way they came. Anyway, I know I can get shock extenders for them, but I am wondering why and has anyone else had this problem? Is there a longer shock from maybe another model car that will fit? I will say this, I bought the multi's because they are about $180 dollars cheaper than the mono's, they don't sag, and you can get them just about anywhere. However, if I had it to do again I would either live with the mono's or convert everything including the upper axle shackle and lower mounting plate to multi. The kit leaves a lot to be desired and once finished it looks cheap and noticeable when you look under the car.
