Very true, water born base takes longer to dry in Summer than in Winter because in Summer, the air being fed into a paint booth is generally more humid than the dryer Winter air...that's why painters use blowers or air movers to dry the base coat. This makes house keeping even more important because that much air moving in your painting environment will stir up every possible piece of dust, dirt and debris that can land in your freshly painted wet base coat.

I used to wet down the floor years ago, but just stopped doing that. As far as a booth goes , where you see the car sitting is where it was sprayed. And just as Ray has stated the more fans that you have sucking in air (intake and exhaust) the more dust that will be stirred up. Just layed down the stencil on the sides and shot the white, getting ready to lay down the clear and will post some pics very shortly.

No I did not do an intercoat clear, what I did was lay down 2 coats of SPI clear on everything. That way I had the blue base protected before I layed out the stencil. Then next I wet sanded everything with 600 grit, bolted the doors and fenders on, then layed out my stencil. I sprayed out the white stripes last night, now I am getting everything ready to put down 5 coats of clear.

As always Dennis, pure perfection...you can tell it's a clone Dennis....it's been done that much better and I for one appreciate that. If it where a real Yenko...that would be a different story...I admire your attention to detail and what you've done.

Thanks for the comments Ray. Just have to shoot the dash, firewall, and inner rear package moulding then it will be leaving. Will cut and buff later on after he starts assembly.

I always cringe if the customer does the assembly...I hope this customer has some experience in putting a car back together....I just know all to well that often the guy putting in an engine doesn't have the same respect for the detail in paint work under the hood as the guy that painted it...just from experience...and the infamous question after, "can you just touch this up?"

I would question having a painter install an engine. I know there restoration shops that do bumper to bumper but also would not be comfortable with one of my engines with my custom billiet one off brackets $2500-5000 heads custom pistons. Block ground smooth and sprayed bc/cc. Engines that total between $8000-30,000 have no place around a body shop. Sanding dust , improper tools messing up stainless hardware and normal wtenches used on AN fittings are my worries

There are Body Shops, there are Mechanical Shops, there are Restoration Shops and there are Custom Shops. A regular Body Shop is probably more qualified to install an engine than a Mechanical Shop is to install a quarter panel...Body Shops sometimes need to replace front clips on vehicles...that means the engine comes with it. Restoration Shops would in many cases do mechanical, body and a host of other services...a Custom Shop should probably be able to do more services that other more specialized shops....but...in the end...it all depends on people. A shop can call themselves whatever they want...in the end it's what they can do that counts...if they say they can install an engine, have the proper facilities for it...and they do it...then that's what matters.

Not to knock anyone but everyone has what they are good at and make money doing. I do agree with the under hood detail. But how often are u bending and flaring custon stainless brake lines. And. Stripping the An Fittings and polishing them and re anodizing them to match the car ? I hzd a customer with a 62 impala who we did a bunch of work for that had it painted. Painter did the steering coloum we just rebuilt and now he wants to bring it back because they put it together wrong. Point Is there times where the final product will be better if everyone dose their steps

Couldn't agree more...most people are qualified in one aspect of the trade or hobby...there are some people that are qualified in several aspects...I don't know of any ONE person that's qualified in all aspects.

In this particular case the customer is putting most of this car together himself, he is not willing to pay me to do something that he can. I can handle most mechanical aspects myself, including engine assembly, full suspension, wiring and so on. I know my limitations, and have that covered by using the best guys for that job.
