69 chevy starter wiring questions

it started with battery being recharged while hooked up in the car, 69 camaro 350 m21 manual trans. so now the battery is charged but a no crank condition. I probably fried something. the starter wiring has primary large red wire from battery, small purple wire and smaller yellow wire.
the purple wire should be the signal from ignition switch in start position, right? and the yellow wire is the other wire on starter solenoid.
the purple wire has no power when attempting to crank, or at any time.
the small yellow wire has power key on and start position as well. should that be the case, yellow wire constant hot with key on, or start psoiton. ???
any first thoughts where to start???

wiring prob.

I think the yellow powers the old point style coil with extra voltage during starting only so it doesn't drop in voltage during starting but only starting. The coil on points doesn't run full voltage except during starting from the yellow wire so the points won't burn during normal driving. The purple should have battery voltage in the start position only, so something is wrong there, could be fuseable link in the very same wire itself or no power from the ignition switch. If your car is converted to electronic ignition as long as the power wire to the distrib(HEI) has 12v volt with key on the yellow wire isn't needed anymore so you can delete it then. Start checking for power from the starter back in start position. Good luck.

Check the neutral start safety switch.
If a jumper connected directly to the start post on the starter cranks the engine the problem is the NSSS or the ignition switch.

thanks for the input. it was infact the neutral safety switch. i learned that my car was AT converted to MT and has no clutch safety switch. so I'll watch that until corrected. I lucked out and found it by testing the purple wires at base of steering column.
