Standing in front looking at the engine there will be a flat machined area on the block where the head and block meet on the left side. It most likely is covered with grease and crud ,there should be a letter and number sequence stamped on it the first few digits will tell you what the engine originaly was. Cubic inch,hp,and most likely the year.
