69 Shelby just painted

Just sprayed this car this week in PPG DBU silver jade. Did full dynacorn quarters, inner and outer wheel houses, trunk drops, and full door shells. The fit was actually very good with the aftermarket sheet metal. Still had to skim everything to get nice and straight, but overall not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Garage temp was cold as usual this time of year, can only run the heat when shooting the epoxy sealer (SPI) and the DBU base (DRR1160) reducer, which was the fastest I could get. This one the owner wanted PPG base and clear, so I went with the 2021 with the DCX hardner and DT860 reducer. I have a forced hot air furnace so once I start clearing I can't run that unit anymore, as it would just create too much dust everywhere. Can get away with it after the epoxy and base flash off but not for the clear. So yeah it can get pretty cold (around 40's)in there this time of year, put down 5 coats of clear waiting 30 min between coats. Will let it sit 3 or 4 weeks to start cutting and buffing.

Very nice out of the gun finish, how does the 2021 cut and buff after waiting that long?

Sorry for taking so long to answer, but no I don't have much trouble getting the shine back after waiting with this clear. I have gone as long as 8 months before cutting with this clear. But I also finish with 2500 and use a wool pad, I have just started using the 3M 06085 compound and it really does buff out fast with this stuff. Was using the 05973 compound for years, but this stuff is much better. I have heard of a lot of complaints with this clear being hard to buff after waiting too long, but I have never had problems with it coming back even after that much time.

man, what an awesome car! Looks really good right out of the gun, especially considering the time of year. when you cut and buff that thing is gonna retain a lot of the clear due to such a clean spray.
