6volt to 12 volt

My 54 chevy has a 6 volt system,I have a 12 volt battery mounted in the trunk that runs the radio, seats, and some grill lights. We had installed some kind of isolator that was to draw from the 6 volt to trickle charge the 12 volt,it hasnt worked,is there a way to do this.
