7.5 gm posi defference

I found two different style posi carriers in the scrap yard was wondering what the difference is and which is better. One in a s-10 blaser and other in malibu wagon these are both 26 spline 7.5 rears can see obvious difference in appearance I think one is a gov-lock and other clutch style??

Nice scrounging! The s10 diff is the gov-loc style and the malibu would be a clutch type posi. The Malibu would bolt right up to your Elky. The Gov-lov is not going to be as friendly to higher power applications, they tend to break under higher power. The Malibu will be better suited to an Elky, although a rebuild/upgrade of the posi unit would not be a bad idea. I went with a Powertrax lock-rite in my Elky, because it is seeing a lot of track time and I wanted maximum traction.

P.S. Take a look in my photo album and you can see my '82 and my dad's '79 Elky.

I agree with '82SS. The Malibu is probably the way to go. I'm running a gov-loc in my V8-Sonoma and so far so good. It is a 7 5/8 (for whatever difference that makes) from a Syclone, and my Sonoma is awfully light (especially in the wet! ), but if I had to do it over again I would look for an 8 1/2.

Yeah that sounds about right...I might add that I'm going with a Ford (Gasp ) 9" on my Nova project.
