70 Monte Spindle Mix Up!
Good afternoon all.
Well I finally got around to reassembly of the front end on my 70 Monte. While putting the spindles back together, I can not for the life of me figure out which side is which when it comes to the (and I aplogize for not knowing the correct name for these parts) part that bolts to the bottom of the spindle and attaches to the tie rod. One has a "GMT47" and the other has a "GMT59" number. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks for your response. Pat |

I'm afraid I don't follow. I also think they are the same side-for-side. In any case, look for the markings from the fasteners. |

I feel a little stupid here. I blasted and painted all my suspension parts so matching them via fastner marks is impossible. They are slightly different and the arm that attaches to the tie rod has a slight curve to it so it could be mounted with the curve going to the outside or the inside. I am leaning toward the inside. I have been pouring over repair manuals but have not found a definite answer. I did find them on OPG's web site and they are sold in pairs so they did not list a left / right part number. Also, I and am assuming, the spindles are the same - I can only find one part number for the spindles - I was hoping that they would have a different part number that may coincide with the steering arm - I'll keep digging. Thanks for all the reply's so far. Anyone else got any ideas, I would greatly appreciate them.
Pat Here's a few pics: Which one do you think is right? #1 ![]() #2 ![]() And the slight curve

They need to be installed so that they curve away from the brake rotor and the large side of the tie rod hole faces down towards the ground. In the pics you provided, you are trying to install them on the wrong side of the spindle itself, they should be on the ball joint side of the spindle and the looping section goes up over the ball joint boss.
