Can some one tell me if this engine used ported or manifold vacuum for ignition advance? I am not sure what year Pontiac switched to ported advance.

Thanks,
BT

If the catalyst is still present it will say disconnect vac advance when setting the base timing which means it uses manifold advance. However if the catalyst is absent, then I would try them both and stick with the one it ran better with. My guess would be it uses manifold vacuum.
