I don't think 87's used Electronic Speedos, so you'll need the signal generator parts from a 88up 1-Ton that came with the TH400.
Some Part # Info here>> http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/tra...sor-th400.html
Need to check Torque Converter mount pattern to see if your Flexplate will work.

If its a 4x4 you'll have to change the transfer case to one from a manual truck...unless spline count changed on the th400s in 88.

Ok i got another if , so if i got one i found a 88 TH 400 or 89, 90 , whould that be a bolt and go, not to worried about flywheel as i will change it , but i may change pieces to get mounting it up done , i think if i can i would just prefer to get one from a 88 or that is already set up for my wiring harness ? whats your thoughts ? i really want to get rid of my 700 R4 , and put in th400, i think i would get some decent punch, my truck has 3.73 gears in the rear , so i wanna freak out my lady , she hates it aas it is , plus i dont need overdrive, its over-rated , LOL

what year 400 turbo, or truck to look for?

I am in the middle of dealing with the wore out 700 R4 in my 88 gmc swb 1500. I have always been a lead foot , i used to have a 70 el camino, but it had a 400 th in it , I loved how it worked , anyway i wonder what year or what truck would i look for to find a 400 TH that will work with my speedometer, or is my best bet to hunt for a electic after market kit that will make my speed-o work . Tickits suck LOL , any help would be greatly appreciated, i have 3.73 gears and a 5.7, so i am thinking the 400 would give me a good jump..... ????????? or is a 700 R4 strong enough to accept a stall converter ?

the t-400 short tail housing trans is a slight different length than the 700 trans.

T-400 trans mount will be slightly different location

The t-400 most likely will have a 32 spline out put shaft.. the 700 trans has a 27 spline out put shaft.

the speed-O stuff was addressed by an earlier post
