I have a friend that has put a 700r4 in his 66 Chevy pick up with a 6 cylinder engine with a one barrel carb. My question is can the TV cable be hooked up to the stock carb.

It has been done, you need to fab up parts for this engine - TV cable application. I am not aware of any "kits" for it

Sure. The TV cable has to be used- no exceptions or the tranny will be severly damaged.

The exact set-up depends on the carb or throttle body, etc. that you're using.
