700 Trans Generation

I HAVE A EL CAMINO WITH A 350 ENG, 700 TRANS, POSI REAR WITH 373s. MY QUESTION IS HOW CAN I KNOW IF MY TRANSMISSION IS A FIRST GEN OR A SECOND GEN... THE REASON FOR THIS IS BECAUSE I PLAN ON REBUILDING THE TRANS BUT WAS TOLD IF THE TRANS WAS A FIRST GEN THEN IT WAS NOT WORTH ME REBUILDING TO GET A 2ND GEN 700.... IS THAT TRUE IS THE FIRST GEN 700 NOT WORTH ME REBUILDING N IF NOT Y SO....THANX IN ADVANCE....

Info can be found here>> The Chevy TH-700R4 Transmission.

The 87-92 and 93 from Z-28 & T/A are the best cores to use, they have all the Factory improvements/upgrades. 30-spline Input Shaft, Auxillary Valvebody etc..
