$700 USD Porsche Dragster...is this possible?

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this board, so please forgive my ignorance, but I've got a question about the costs for dragging.

A person on our Bulletin Board is advertising they can make a 10 second dragster out of a Porsche 924 by swapping a V8 into the car.

I have no doubt you can supercharge, or turbocharge, anything, and make a 10 second car. Heck, you could probably make a 10 second tractor with enough money.

How much money would you say it costs to 'buy in' to the drag racing game? Or how much to make a 10 second quarter mile Porsche 924?

It seems confusing to me and it seems like $700 isn't much money...is all drag racing this cheap?

Thanks in advance, :)

Sounds like he's selling you the plans for $700. Either that or he's talking an eighth instead of a quarter mile. The swap wouldn't be hard, V8s have been put in smaller cars but where can you buy an engine that would put out that kind of power for $700. Maybe 30-40 years ago.

A 924 drivetrain will not handle 10 second torque even though the car is light. I am sure the rearend, transmission and engine are changed. So the guy is probably selling motor mounts, cross members etc. A SBC would probably fit in there and the chasis would probably clear a TH350. 924's are alomst never automatics anyway. Drag racing is not cheap.

<a href="http://bullfoot.bravepages.com/disclaim.html" target="_blank">bullfoot story</a> back in the early 70's me and my pal hopa ho did 2 corv8s.

one waz 327 vette rodchester fuel injected engine in a 66corvair yenko using the crown engineering adaptors and subframe kit

the other on waz a destroked 327 holley carbed 62 140 coupe we copied the kit that waz hummm at least 65 percent less cash out for parts and materials then the 66 waz

we had to used the 68 or later corvair Stock 4 spd transaxles in both cars 3.89 RE gears & Posi.

Best gears were used from 4 68 t axles we had. Posi plates replaced with new ones. RE was upgraded with Crown Kit extra spider gears.

whew i'd be hard pressed to say you could do that for 700 bucks today.
