700r for a 200r

i have 1990 caprice with a 5.7 700r trey putting a 200r in 700r going bad what u thing

driveshaft won't fit. tranny crossmember won't fit
replace the 700r4 with another 700r4

The only purpose in going to the 200R4 is to get a different gear ratio set. If you're racing with a light chassis and lots of rear gear ratio, this is a good, though expensive, thing. For a heavy car with a more or less stock engine and rear gearing, you will not appreciate the higher ratio low gear of the 200. The old Caprice will be slower out of the hole and no faster on the top end. Without a lot of aftermarket goodies, it will not like the torque coming off the 350, it can't be used as it comes from the wrecking yard for long without spending some serious money on the internal details.

they actually put a few 200-4r's in the caprices, but like mentioned, you will need to buy a longer driveshaft (about 3"). odds are your caprice already has both sets of mounting holes for the x-member so install wouldnt be too big a deal.
the only problem lies with the wiring for the torque converter. you would have to find a wiring schematic between the 2 to make sure that it gets "lock up". without it, the trans will burn up.
