700r Wont Shift Out Of First

I HAVE A 1970 C20 WITH A 454 AND A 700R TRANSMISSION WITH A 14 BOLT REAR END I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AS SAID. I WAS WASHING UP THE MOTOR WITH ENGINE BRITE AND POSSIBLY GOT THE TPS SENSOR AS SHOWN ON THE LINK WET.THEN I TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE DOWN THE STREET PRETTY MUCH GUNNED IT ALL THE WAY UP FROM 1RST TO 2CND AND SO ON... THEN JUST DROVE IT ON D AND SHIFTED FINE THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT WOULDNT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR...THIS HAPPENED ALL OF THE SUDDEN NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS TILL AFTER THE ENGINE WAS WASHED...I CAN SHIFT MANUALLY FOR FIRST TO SECOND ...WOULD THIS BE A RESULT OF THIS MODULE/SENSOR BEING WET OR DAMAGED...HOW CAN I TEST IT?

Can you post a diagram of were the governor gear is located? Am not familiar with these trannys or motors ...so you think the TPS SENSOR/MODULE has nothing to do with it ?

are you sure its a 700r4 and not a 4L60E? also, i saw that you mentioned that after you noticed the problem that you caould get a manual 1-2 shift which does not coincide with a broken governor gear. sounds like maybe some trash could have gotten in the tv valve and is keeping the trans pressures high, and the trans is seeing high line pressure which will keep the trans from shifting normally.

*EDIT* i just saw the link you have up and what you have there is for a 4l60e. not a 700r4.

Hi,
Location of governor
http://www.dragracingonline.com/tech.../0409/gov2.jpg
The location of the governor on a TH-350 is behind this cover. For TH-400 and 700R4 the location is the same.
