700r4 1st gear to short

I have a 700r4 in an 86 silverado and when i take off from a stand still i come out of first almost instantly regardless of how much throtle. i want first gear to hold a little longer. arent they suppose to hold longer? my gears are 3.08 12bolt

You can try tightening the TV cable a click or 2. This will also extend other shifts. As would a Governor Recalibration Kit.

Is it shifting to second or is it acting like it goes right to high gear from first?

it should yeah

maybe the cable is stretched, wrong cable backet, or wrong geometry

is it all original?

my 91 700r4 in my s-10 holds first gear forever and ever when cold.
but its perfect when warmed up and runs drives awesome/

but its 197k miles so...

There is only so much in shift points that the TV cable can effect. You can change the governor to a Corvette one and that will move the 1-2 shift up to about 4500 rpm then buy tuning kit that has different weights and springs. TCI is but one firm that offers one.
