I have a 1989 Chevy 4x4 pickup with a 700r4 transmission that is in bad shape I bought a 700r4 out of a 1989 2 wheel drive pickup I would like to use the 700r4 that I bought, and would like to know how hard it is to switch the tail shaft on both of them,oh yea I have never done any transmission work

well to change the shaft you will have to remove the valve body, pump, input drum front sun out put shaft snap ring basically you will be tearing down the tranny the only thing left in it will be the low roller and low reverse clutches shell and planets

It is unnecessary to remove the valve body on a 700 trans to change the out put shaft.

The pan must come off to remove the filter and lock up solenoid.

How ever since cheapride stated that there is no experience on transmission work.... I'd take it to a shop
