700r4
Hi Guys
I just bought a 1987 Chevy Pick Up with the 700r4 transmission. I don't know what rear end gears I've got. He said I should drive it in the "D" position around town and only use the overdrive position when it hits around 55mph. In other words highway driving. Is he right ? What difference does it make if any? Thanks

Sometimes those trucks would shift to OD at 40-45 MPH and make the truck a bit doggy. In traffic situations, the trans would upshift and downshift as you got on and off the gas, causing an "overbusy" situation. It won't hurt to drive in D around town.
