Post 700r4 for '73 Monte Carlo

I'd like to change the 350 turbo out of my '73 Monte Carlo with a 700r4. I remember reading that certain years were not desireable. Which year(s) should I go with? Would I have to change the transmission mount? I know I'll have to shorten the drive shaft, and install a lockout. I want to keep it a mechanical speedo.

Do it!

You'll love the 3.07 first gear, and the OD is butter!

You'll have to move the mount back a bit, shorten the driveshaft, hook up the TV cable to the carb arm, install the lockup switch on the valve body,...that is about it.

<a href="http://www.700r4.com" target="_blank">www.700r4.com</a> is a great site for all kinds of good info.

Oh, about the year - common thought is '86 and up. I had an '85 from an IROC-Z in a little roadster a few years ago, and I felt it was like any other I've had. Go figure.

Good luck.

Thumbs up

700r4 trannies are nice and hard to kill,88's seam to stand up better than the others i've seen if its top end and durability that your looking for I would also look into the older 2 speed power gluids, they are easyer to rebuild and you wouldn't have to change your mounts or your drive shaft.........everly
