The later ones are considered better than the early ones ...
It is very simple to change any of the 700R4's to a mechanical speedometer drive ... so do not let that influence your choice ...

I have a 700R4 in my 66 Nova and it's from a 92 Chevy. Mechanical speedo and column shifter both work well. You'll need to move the tranny crossmember 2" rearward or buy a pre-made one from places like Chevy2Only or BTO. The 700R4 is 3" longer than the original tranny so you'll need a 3" shorter driveshaft. One from a Vega will bolt right in using the stock rear u-joint or you can use a 2nd Gen Camaro shaft with an adapter joint in the rear.

700r4
Thanks onovakind67
Will I have to worry about any of the computer stuff? Or wiring? Any recommendations on making it work better or stay together better would be welcome. Thank you again Lee 62 Nova Convertible |
