Are you asking about replacing the trans with a 2004R or the Planetery gears in the 700R4? The 700 Planetary gears are Mucho $$, like $700 or more.
Here's a good comparison between different Co.'s 2004R builds>> http://www.extremeautomatics.com/eavscomp/th2004r.html |

um not sure. I cant imagine dropping $700 into the 700r4 when i can get a 200r4 for $30 bucks. Can the 200 hold the same power as the 700?

if i start looking for another core do some of the 200r4s have the more desired 30 spline input shaft? I know when i was looking for 700s everyone told me late 80s. Thanks for the help

The best are shown here in BOLD print >> http://web.archive.org/web/200701281.../thm2004r.html These have the best performance Valvebody, Governor & Servo. The GN/T- Type have largest 694 Servo. Pumps have larger TV & Low/Reverse boost valves also. There are 4340 Billet Input Shafts, Forward Drums, O/D Carriers & Ring gears, Billet Al Servos etc.. available from several sources also. CKPerformance, PTS etc.. |

awesome thank you very much for the info. Now i have to decide which trans i want to build......

700R4 Info, 82-84 are 27spline Input shaft, 85up are 30spline, 87-93 have the auxiliary valvebody. The newer the trans the better=more factory internal upgrades.
Is this for your Cutlass? What year model? What trans did it have originally? If so I'd go with the 2004R trans. Easy to find the correct TV cable brackets, Crossmember & Driveshaft as the Monte Carlo's, Cutlass, Malibu's, Grand Prix and Regal's came with this trans. Driveshaft from these 78-88 G-body cars that had TH350/350C, TH250, TH200/200C & TH2004R can be used as they're the same length. 84-88 have the correct Crossmember. 78-83 don't have the frame extensions for the 2004R crossmember & must be added also. http://www.maliburacing.com/transmission_swaps.html http://www.maliburacing.com/iceman/ |

that would be mid year 1987 trans 700r4 have the aux valve body... there are some cases in 1987 , it is best to remove the pan to verify

its an 86 cutlass supreme the original drive train was a 3.8 with an automatic, then my dad swapped that out for a 305 with a th350, and then i put in a 350. I like the idea of being able to get all the little stuff like tv brackets, and cable, and then like the driveshaft and the crossmember from a donor car. That will help keep the costs down too |

Is there a way to swap the planet gear set from a 200 into a 700 so i can get the 2.84 first gear with the 30spline input? I don't think there is but it would be cool if i could. Here is one that patc made but its $1200(all the way at the bottom of the page)
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/highperflist.htm They said they gained approx 3/10. Sorry for asking so many questions but this is my first transmission build and am trying to do all my homework. Last edited by zildjian4life218; 11-24-2009 at 01:30 PM. |

Geeesh , thats the parts i was talking about from PATC. I didn't know they were $1200.I did run across this on Evilbay a few days ago, all the Billet 4340 Hard parts to beef up the 2004R for a (very) good price.>> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bille...item27ad45dabc I've talked to this guy several times, nice fellow. I bought all my Billet parts from CKPerformance, paid alot more too. |

Cool find, still goes to show you that there is no "cheap" overdrive trans, still far more expensive than a simple TH-350 or 400 or a Glide.
By the way, Zildjian, the 200R4 has a 2.75 low gear if you didn't know - I doubt you would see much if any gain with a 2.84 gears set, I think it is to get away from the big rpm drop at the shift you get with the 700R4's stock 3.06 low. |

alright thanks, i had never had trans work done before so wasnt sure on price. What kind of tools will I need if i decide to tear this apart myself? Also does anyone make dvds to help show you. I got one from richmond when i did my rear end gear and that helped out a lot.
