How are the surfaces that the seals run on? A crack or deep nick will cause a leak and cause low apply pressure. A cracked low & reverse piston??

Everything seems to be freshly machine. No cracks. Ok when I first crunk the car up. I noticed smoke coming from the dip stick too.

low reverse frictions are not moving when the vehicle is stopped, in park , etc... these frictions should not be smoking then.

if the clutch pack clearance is too thin , this will also burn these low - reverse frictions

Ok. To retrace my steps...I was not sure how many gallons the tranny took so I added 6qts, crunk it up and ran it thru the gears. It creeped in r/d so I put it in park and checked the dip stick. Dry... so I added another 2qts, this time it jumped in r/d. Backed up and drove forward n shut it off. That's when I noticed the smoke coming from the dip stick tube. Could running it low be one of the problems?

since that trans and converter can hold 11 quarts of fluid, 6 quarts is not enough if the trans and converter were dry at a fresh rebuild
