700R4 converter wont unlock

I work at our local chevy dealership and I drive an 84 Silverado and I wanted to buy a new 700 and our tranny guy says I can build you one for a whole lot less, long story short we used a 92 core built it and the converter stays locked up at all times. we have even taken it out and back apart and cant find anything. I haven't even hooked up any electronics yet. Any help???

define: "locked all the time"

when you shift from park to any gear , does the engine die out becasue the converter clutch is applied?

Or the converter clutch locks up as you drive , then does not want to unlock as you stop?

700 wont unlock

The engine doesn't die when I put it in gear but when Im cruising at low speed it sounds like I have a 4 speed manual trans in it and I haven't down shifted, when you almost stop it down shifts back to firtst. The shifting is a little awquard also, but firm. I havent hooked up any of the electronics yet.

IF you have no electrical hooked to the trans.... some one may have set this trans up for hydraulic lock up.

or

Could be the lock up system is malfunctioning.

Drop the pan to see what is stuff is setup as would help... an experienced after market trans guy would help too.

Many OEM dealer builders are not up on the after market way of things with trannys.

What would cause the system to malfuction and what should we look for to see if someone has made it a hydraulic lock up. I drove it home for the first time and I'm tired of tearing this thing apart if you get my drift.

wont unlock

I also heard that you can put a check ball in a certain spot and the tranny will automatically lock up in second, third and fourth gear. Do you know were that might be so I may look to see if mine has one in that spot because that sounds axactly like what mine is doing.
