700R4/driveshaft length question

This may be a stupid question, so don't rip on me too bad fellas. I'm currently trying to swap my TH-350 for the 700R4 in my 76 corvette. I used to surf corvetteforum.com but no one seemed to want to help me out and I searched through the old posts but still didn't find any answers. My question is this: I know that I'm suppose to shorten my driveshaft 3 inches so it fits the 700R4 and modify the crossmember. What's the length of the driveshaft in a late thirdgen that came with the 700R4? In theory would the late thirdegen driveshaft be the size I need? I'm just trying to find an alternative to shortening the driveshaft I have now. And what about the crossmember in the thirdgen, would that bolt right on to the corvette? I know bowtie overdrive sells their own crossmember but they charge around 250 bucks for it. I'm just trying to work on a budget but be reasonable at the same time.
Thanks for all the help in advance,
Yuchen

I just swaped out a TH350 for a 700R4 in my street rod and I would suggest you get the swap complete then measure from center of universal to center of universal subtract 3/4 of and inch and have the shaft cut down dont assume anything will inter change. The length is more important than you think. Cant help you on the cross member I moved mine about 2". Good Luck
