700r4

I have 1st & 2nd gear and reverse, the rest are not there, what could be the proble, just had it rebuilt, 300 miles ago.

I guess that means the you don't have third or fourth, which most likely means the 3/4 clutch pack fried, very common on the 700. Ck the fluid for a burnt smell, if so, its going to be rebuild time again, hopefully it can be done better than before.

After putting transmission back in, took it for short ride, it worked great, the next morning on the way to work, it stayed in low along time, but it straitened out, it worked could for a couple trips to work, then it sounded like it was slipping when it was in drive and over drive, and now it just isnt there. There was alot of patroluem jelly on the transmission when I got it back,....could this of pluged the filter and be causeing the problem?

mattgabe..... please do not hi-jack threads with a new different question of your own.

I split your posts off to start a new thread so there may be more answers to your question.

Many things could cause the tranny to act as yours does.

Since it was just rebuilt , I imagine there is a warranty of some type? Or is this a DIY rebuild at home?

the petroluem jelly was prolly used as assembly gel, to hold misc parts and springs in place(very helpful) we use transgel which is basically vaseline with blue dye,

also if its only been 300 and the trans was covered in the stuff you didn't take it to a very good builder, there should be no reason to have it all over the outside as very little is needed, and this just shows poor workmanship and no a very clean builder
