700r4 Help Diagnosing Problem

Ive Got A 92 4x4 Blazer (fullsize) Recently Noticed It Was Shifting Weird And At High Rpms Was Going From 2nd To 3rd And Then Back To 2nd Gear. Then Noticed A "ticking" Sound That Sped Up With Raised Rpms, Then While Driving, I Heard Something Break And At That Moment, The Motor Was Running, But My Truck Wasn't Going Anywhere. Installed A New Torque Converter. No Difference. The Old Fluid Was Pretty Dark, But It Didnt Smell Burnt, Wasnt Overfull Or Low On Fluid. Im Thinking I Need A New Transmission But Not Sure, Could It Be My Transfer Case Or Something Else?

mileage on the tranny? Never install a fresh converter on an old tranny. The converter is now full of old tranny fluyid and crud from the tranny.

I'd suggest having a knowledgable tranny person check the vehicle out

I SUGGESTED MY HUSBAND TAKE IT TO A SHOP TO START BUT .... AS WELL I ALSO SHOULD MENTION THIS BLAZER IS HUGE! IT HAS A 6"(?) OR MORE LIFT, V8 WITH SOME KIND OF PERFORMANCE CHIP, IT RUNS GREAT BUT SINCE HE GOT IT THERE HAVE BEEN ISSUES WITH THE TRANNY. TRUCK HAS @ 100,000 ON IT. I KNOW THAT BEFORE IT BROKE DOWN, THAT UPON INITIAL ACCELERATION, THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR YOU HAD TO PUT YOUR FOOT IN IT TILL RPMS WERE AT ABOUT 3500/4000 RPMS, THEN LET OFF THE GAS AND IT WOULD SHIFT. AND IT SEEMED TO GO INTO EACH GEAR AFTER THAT JUST FINE AS WELL AS DOWNSHIFT FINE TOO. i DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT TRANSMISSIONS, ITS MY HUSBANDS TRUCK, BUT I'M TRYING TO GET A LITTLE INSIGHT BEFORE IT WINDS UP COSTING ME A GRIP OF MONEY. THE TORQUE CONVERTER HE INSTALLED WAS A HEAVY DUTY ONE, AFTER HE PUT IT IN HE ONLY RAN THE TRUCK FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES, LONG ENOUGH TO REALIZE THAT IT WASN'T THE PROBLEM AND HE SHUT IT OFF. ARE YOU SAYING ITS GARBAGE NOW OR CAN IT STILL BE USED? I REALLY DO APPRECIATE YOUR TAKING THE TIME TO HELP ME ON THIS. THANKS

I would suggest checking the adjustment on the TV cable. Full cable pull at WOT is the proper setting .

If the trans does not shift till high RPM , the TV cable may be out of adjustment or fallen off/broken.

As I said before ; if there is metal trash debris inside the tranny , it is now inside the new converter.

good luck

My '76 blazer suddenly wouldn't shift until high RPMs one day and I got lucky when I dropped something under it and had to crawl under and I happened to see a vacuum line on the trany just hanging off.
