It sounds like the TC/TorqueConverter isn't fully installed into the Trans. Most likely the TC Hub lugs/splines aren't in the Pump Gear Lugs.
You need to spin & push in on the TC when installing it. The Input Shaft, Stator Support & Pump splines need to engage. Normally hear/feel 3-clicks/clunks.
Do Not use the Bellhousing Bolts to pull the Trans up to Engine, this will break the Pump gear/rotor.

Make sure your Flexplate bolt pattern will align with the TC bolt pattern. Some have dual bolt patterns but, some don't & wont fit.
