700r4 Lock up?

I have a 86' Chevy half ton 2 wheel drive that I am putting a fresh motor in. I was wondering if this is a lock up torque converter transmission and if I am going to have to modify anything. The original computer controlled distributor is gone and looks like the wiring for it as well. It runs and drives now with an old HEI in it. So is this a lock up trans? Do I have to do anything to it if I am just dropping in a 350 to replace the 305? Thanks

Hi,
It's a lock-up converter type. You don't need to change anything yet, after awhile you'll need to upgrade it to an 88 up 700r4 after the one you have quits, 84 to 86 700s weren't so good.

Thanks for the information sir. The trans seems alright now but I do know what you mean. The guy who had the truck before me used it to tow a 1 horse trailer and horse. He actually put a spring pack in the rear and air shocks. It has a pretty large trans cooler and a shift kit of some sort. Hopefully it will hold up for one season atleast. I do have a long tailshaft TH 350 that is in good shape sitting in the garage. Maybe I should just look into installing that with the new engine. Anyway im just rambling. Thanks again for the reply.

Run the OD. Just make sure you get the TV cable adjusted correctly. If you don't know what I'm talking about search this board and the internet for instructions on how to do it correctly.

It is the key to the 700R4 living a long and useful life or checking out quickly.
