700r4 with lockup question
My 700r4 is on a lockup swtch for the converter. The swap is into a lesebre the switch is tapped so up is 12 volts/ground applied to tcs, middle is normal, and down cuts the brake light switch input. It downshifts fine and the TV cable is present. When in OD, is it ok to keep the trans from locking up? Is it okay to manually lock the soleniod?

Lock ing gives about 400rpm drop at 70mph. 2600 rpm at 70mph.

235/60/15's and a 4.10 rear.

A 700r4 swap from a th350 is a big perfomance boost. Was a lugging torque lump with th350 and 2.76 gears. Changing to a 700r4 and 4.10 made it drive like a racecar.

If you have a 1982-83-84 car or truck never drive it with the wires on the side of the transmission unplugged/TCC Unlocked. This will overheat the transmission on a long trip. On a 1985 or later it is O K to have the wires unplugged, because of a design change made in late 1984.

Yes it's Ok to Lock manually. Don't do it at WOT tho'. This can/will smoke the TCC/TorqueConverterClutch.
