700R4 Made to work?

I am replacing the 350/350 combo in my 48 Ford street rod with a mild 406 small block and 700R4. I can get a 700R4 from a mid 90s Chev 2WD pickup. Can this transmission be made to work with out the use of a computer? Is an after market wire kit available to use this tranny with minimum electrical work?

What year trans Larry? If it's a '93 or later it's a 4L60E and needs a computer to operate. '92 or earlier tranny's can be modified with one of these kits http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/CategoryDisplay? to work in your non computer set up...

depending on your driving, the stock 700 might not be strong enough for you with that engine. you can rebuild the 700's and 4L60E's to be strong with updated parts and internal mods. either trans can be made to work for you, i think jet performance might offer a stand alone controller for the 4L60E for your application.
