700r4 no overdrive

I just installed a used 700r4 in the WarWagon ( 90 GMC fullsize 350) I flushed out the cooler lines and all that good stuff but now I have no overdrive. It will shift into OD, but only when I am not touching the gas -i.e coasting down a hill - but as soon as I touch the gas it goes back to 3td. If any one knows a way to fix this short of a rebuild please let me know. The transmission came out of an 87 3/4 ton van that had been sitting for several years. Thanks

is it a kickdown cable adjustment. i'm not that familiar with the 700r but on the earlier chevy trans there is a cable from the accelerator linkage on the engine to the trans and if it is too short or adjusted out too far it will cause the trans to stay in 2nd too long etc. just a thought.

the 700/4L60 trannys have a Throttle valve cable aka TV cable.

It must adjusted correctly.

I would check that adjustment first. Full pull of the calbe at WOT is the place to set the TV cable at.
