700r4 noisy after converter change

this is my friends car ive been helping with

92 camaro with a 3.1Lv6 that we turbocharged
the stock converter started to blow threw pretty badly so he picked up a gm replacement converter gm16hd i belive was the number

this is a high stall heavy duty converter basically used in the s10/15 pickups and blazers stall is around 2,800-3,000 rpms

the problem is it has a chatter/clunking/buzz sound when the transmission is in manual 1 or 2, but dosent do it in any other gear or park and neutral

heres are 2 videos so u can heear it

first vid is from inside the car second video is with the camera under the car pointed at the flexplate/converter

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=hCJgPmlCzNc

http://youtu.be/mkYyCjlrAj4

trying to figure out if the converter he got is bad or if the transmission is going out

it does shift normally though and does not slip at all

in my own 3.1 v6 camaro that is also turbocharged i broke my flexplate and it made the same sortt of noise but it did it no matter what gear and in park/nuetral

so im wondering if his could also have a crack in it but i would assume it would make noise all the time

the one in the picture i broke at about 250hp after about a year of use
now that the car is making yupwards of 400 hp i throw away the stock flexplates after about 2 months of use if i go to the track and race it every weekend or they just break in the same place

I hear the noise in all ranges, except P and N...louder in 1 and 2 for some strange reason..In a nutshell,I would pull it,check the pump stator support splines to see if they are stripped, check the flywheel...and if they look good...change the converter.

he has a new converter on the way, should get it in about 2 days.
he spoke with dana at probuilt and it looks like the converter was just bad out of the box.going to have him insect the flexplate carefully when he pulls the trans to replace the converter again to make sure theres no small cracks in it,and to make sure all the mounting holes arent egged out or ovaled
