700r4 to nv4500 swap anyone ever done it?

I'm thinking about chinging my 700r4 out in favor of an nv4500.
Has anyone ever done this swap?
Vehicle is a 1985 k10 Silverado, with a np208 transfer case.

I know it's not the same thing but I changed out my '88 1 ton's granny 4 speed to a 700R4 and loved it. Anyway to each his own, have you looked at www.nv4500.com? Lots of info on the trans, probably someone there has done the switch.

Thank you, did your transfer case work out alright? Is the NV4500 site a forum,If it is I couldn't find that section? I just don't think that a 700 r4 will live behind the 406,It only has around 20k on the trans and in maybe 400 miles of the 406 its starting to fry.

I'll be starting on a TH-700R4 to SM-465 swap here this weekend, FINALLY.

The hardest thing I can forsee will be placing the bracket on the frame for the mechanical clutch as far as mechanical things will go.

I will look into getting the proper ECM chip if there seems to be much of a problem with the ECM wanting to lock up the torque converter and setting a code or causing a driveability problem, but that will come after the swap.

I am also swapping out the 2WD auto trans, for a 4WD manual and eventually swapping the rest of the drivetrain components in stages to complete the entire swap. Kind of nice I have had and eventually parted out nearly 35 of that generation GM trucks in all shapes and sizes over the years.

I also have the 465 shifter on the bench doing an upgrade to tighten the sloppiness between the handle and insert, I am considering taking a few pics along the way.

You may just have to shift wher the automatic did,I have heard of this, as for the tc lockup if you can find out how much of a draw it pulls and then wire up a light in the appropriate power usage you may fool it.

Why not go with a hydraulic clutch?

So thats where they all went .

I bought anothe 85 for the bed today,this one is a 2wd, but the rest of it is too solid to scrap and has a clean title,so I may make the roadster pickup a roller and try to sell it,then fix this one up(adding a 73-80 front clip and a stepside bed) as the diesel rig I have wanted for a few years, once I get my 85 4x4 fixed up.

Yeah I'll have to go back through my manuals and find out just what the ECM will want to look for as far as information it can read and respond to.

It's a third generation ECM and from hooking up the laptop to it I can pull a lot more information from it than I can from my 1987 truck, I was also playing around with the CCC1 ECM in my 1981, just to see what all it can or cannot read and do, it isn't much at all, but disconnect a single thing of the 5 it CAN read, and it makes the car run like it's missing a few cylinders and misfiring on the rest at best.

I know I will end up swapping in a 4 wire O2 sensor later on to make the computer react positively faster than waiting for the 2 wire sensor to heat up first, then only providing half the available information than the 4 wire can.

Ended up going with a NV3500, bolts up to a standard shift transfer perfectly,driveshaft length is the same. But its going to need about 4 inches of lift so that the front shaft doesnt smack the bellhousing in the clutch fork housing
