700r4 phantom problem?

I just installed my new 355sbc. I have a 700r4 from an 87 trans am with a 2800-3200 stall converter. I havent hooked up the lockup wiring which i thought could have made it over heat, but I dont know. I took it for a 25 mile drive last night and everything was going good. Pulled over to look at something then contined driving and it wouldn't shift out of first. Pulled over again and let it sit and cool for about 20 mins, started driving and it shifted good besides for no overdrive. In the process of getting home I eventually lost third and had very firm shifts into second. Today I took it out around the block and let it get hot, did some decent pulls through all gears and everything was fine. What happened? I'm nervous to take it out anywhere. As far as I know it's stock but I also have an auxiliary cooler in addition to the radiator. Thought TV cable but it shifts and drives great aside from this issue.

Possibly some trash in the TV/ThrottleValve in the Valvebody or the TV may be binding/sticking. Sometimes pulling the TV cable out & releasing it quickly several times will clear it up. Do this with engine running, Trans in neutral, Parking Brake applied.
Do make sure the TV cable is set/adjusted correctly.

well I just took to for a drive and got caught in traffic and it started doing it again. when it gets hot like stop and go it shifts late and hard. I then parked and with it in gear it felt like it was gonna die, kept shuttering like it had drag on it. Bad torque converter? it's a boss hog

Does sound like a TCC/TorqueConverterClutch problem.
The Trans is designed to only allow TCC lockup in 2nd, 3rd & 4th gears. It shouldn't be dragging/binding/locking in 1st gear.
The TCC Solenoid can cause many problems but, not in 1st gear.
700R4 & 2004R operate the same >> TH200-4R TCC Solenoid Transmission Problem

Premature lockup or No lockup >> http://www.sonnax.com/system/announcement/77805-K.pdf generally not in 1st gear either.

That rules out the TCC Solenoid & TCC Apply Valve.
Try another TC if you have one.
Not sure what Warranty ACC has. >> Home

But how would the torque converter make the 1-2 shift so late and hard? I drove a long time ago with the tv not adjust and it feels exactly like that when it gets hot. Let it sit and it feels great and smooth and at the proper speed. But when it gets hot it just goes to $@*%!!!! Can the torque converter be bad causing too much heat? I don't even know if he will make it act like this!

The more I think....is there anyway the tv valve can bind up when it gets hot (expands)? I used the tv made ez kit for my demon carb but didn't install the spring they sent me.

Well I changed the fluid and filter. Found a nut and tv cable seal around the linkage inside the trans, like it fell in there around the linkage when the previous owner had the trans out. Sprayed out the valve and worked it back and forth real good. Also found the PO changed the filter and left the old gasket in there when he put the new filter on. Removed both and put a new filter and fluid in and seems to be working great. Guess well wait and see!!!

I thought you had to use BTO's TV spring with their TVMadeEasy kit or it wouldn't shift correctly.
The problem when hot sounds like the TV plunger is binding/sticking.
