700r4 problem

i have a 83 chevy truck that had a bad 700 so i bought a used 700r4 out of a 91 chevy installed it started it ran it through the gears and it seemed fine. checked tranny fluid knowing that it would be low and it was so i turned it off added fluid started it and every time u put it in gear now it dies. could this be the lockup solenoid or converter or either? will the solenoid out of the old 83 work? i noticed the one in the 83 has one wire and the 91 has two? any help would be appreciated. thanks

Cool

You say every time you put it in gear the engine stalls out.

Does this happen in reverse too?

Did you use the complete tranny and converter form the junk yard?

Did you change the converter?

My first guess would be an engine problem since there is no oil circuit for lock up in reverse and first gear of the 700 / 4L60 unless there have been modifications performed or something seriously is wrong.
