700R4 questions

There's a 700R4 for sale I've been eyeing (he's dropped it down to 250 bucks) I was thinking of getting, guy says it was built to handle 600 hp(has receipts), but the bell housing is broken all the way around. My question is, how hard is to swap the guts over, to another 700r4. Also would a 85 700R4 fit in a 79 Trans am? Also 700R4's a basically an automatic with 4 gears right?

700R4 questions

Just get a J.W. Ultrabell that bolts on thru the same bolts that hold the front pump into the case. Made for racing, sfi approved as a safety sheild for the flexplate and converter. You just machine or grind off the original bellhousing and bolt on this extra thick bellhousing, and your good to go and stronger than stock to boot! You also won't have to get into the trans itself or need to find another case. Drag and Circle racers do this all the time. You can also get it with the B-O-P bolt pattern, too.

I was unaware that JW offered a bell housing for the 700/4L60 transmissions.

Sorry if I got your hopes up, your right, looks like the don't. Call their tech department, maybe they can drill a blank one to what you need on a special order basis seeing as the 700 is pretty much a 350 w/overdrive and several parts can be interchanged.
