700r4 Servo Install won't fit

I have a 700r4 trans in my 56 chevy and I am installing a new corvette servo in the trans. I had no trouble removing the cover and old servo but when I install the new servo I can't get it to go in far enough to put the cover plate back on. It seems to need to go in about 1/4 inch. I have a feeling the band inside the trans has moved but I am unsure of what to do to align the band and servo. I measured the pin in the new servo compared to the old pin and it is only about a 1/16 of an inch longer. Any ideas.

Is the servo piston turned the right way, seems I remember something to the effect that it can be turned the wrong way, not sure though.

the apply piston (4th) that is in the cover, mayb you turned that around?

look at this piston for witness marks where it would have applied against the servo pin.

One side of the knub is taller than the other side.. the short side is against the servo pin

Now it fits 700r4 servo

I had to remove the pan and through a very small opening by the front pump I was able to hold the band from expanding and then install the servo. I really did not want to take the pan off but then well that was what was needed.

Sounds like the someone may have cut the tabs off of the band, which would allow this to occur. Not a good pratice.
