700R4 Shifting?

1991 GMC Sonoma, 4.3 Liter V6, 4x4

The truck has about 150,000 miles on it. The truck has been sitting/used as a yard truck for a couple of years now. The truck has been driven just around the yard for landscaping and utility use. Before the truck was taken off the road it shifted fine. Now it takes about 35-40 mph before it shifts out of first and when it shift is shift so hard it breaks the back tires loose. After it shifts to second it seems to shift somewhat okay. One thing I have noticed if I accelerate normally I get this problem, but if I floor it from a stop it shifts just fine? Any suggestions.

I changed the fluid (just in the pan) and filter and refilled with new fluid and added a bottle of sea foam trans tune. And also checked the operation and adjusted the throttle valve cable.

Sounds like your on the right track. Try unhooking the TV cable @Carb/ThrottleBody and giving it a dozen or so pulls to see if the TV is binding/sticking. Possibly a shift valve sticking in Valvebody also. The Governor seems to be working correctly since it doesn't have the problem at full or heavy throttle.

I was actually going to replace the tv cable but I forgot to get one when I went to the parts store. I should have just waited so I wouldn't have to drop the pan again. I will change the cable maybe this weekend if I can get to it, I am trying to get my car ready for the demolition derby. Where does the time go on the weekends?
