700r4 shifts in between gears

Ive searched all over the internet and havent found anybody with any similar problems. It seems like the only time this problem will happen is after either I go full throttle or when I shift into neutral or 3rd (while driving). After doing that when cruising doing 60 my car will downshift into 3rd gear and wont upshift until I give it throttle and make it accelerate, but usually as soon as a I let off, so I can just do 60, it will go right back into 3rd gear (it will also do this in town doing 25-30). It will have this problem the time that I drive it when I go full throttle or shift into neutral or 3rd, and the next time I drive it after that. But then the time after that when i drive it, it will drive completely normal again. any suggestions or similar experiences?

Cody,

I don't mean to insult you but are you sure that it is going into third? Or possibly is it the TCC unlocking that you are feeling?

if its down shifting on its own when you let off the throttle, then more than likely the throttle valve is sticking in the valve body. when is the last time any maintenance has been performed? how many miles on the vehicle?whats the level and condition of the fluid?

i just replaced the pan gasket and the gasket for where the kickdown cable goes in. im not sure how many miles are on the transmission, its currently in a volvo station wagon and thats the way i bought it. the fluid appeared to be in good condition and i put it at the right level when i changed the pan gasket which was only a few days ago. *and this problem was happening before i changed the gasket

Sticking/binding TV/ThrottleValve or TV Plunger normally happens after the Trans gets up to operating Temp.
As "Tnsmith10" suggested this may be your problem.
