700r4 speedo gears

To make a long story short, If my output gear for my speed o cable is red,do I need a red drive gear also? ( Output being the gear on the sensor and the drive gear being the gear on the trans out put shaft)
Will another color work? I understand different colors have different number of teeth on the gear ,but I'm using a electronic gauge that is adjustable ,so can I mis match colors?
Also Its a 1987 700r4 trans .

Not really sure, I haven't delt with Electro. much. It may work if the Gauge has enough adjustment.

There is no such thing as mis-matched colors for speedometer gears. Seldom will both gears be the same color.

All that matters is that the gears work together to show the correct speed on your speedometer head.

the colors of the gear will depend on your combination of rear axle gear ratio and rear tire size.

I used this calculator on TCI's website to figure out what combo of gears I needed to make my speedo right when I swapped from 2.73's to 3.55's...

Speedometer Gear Calculator and Charts - TCIŽ Auto

after getting busted for doing 68 in a 50 cuz my speed said I was doing 90.. it was time to fix it.. lol
